Shakespeare Diaries: The Awakening
O ‘ere it were a silent night, I sleep in jest,
my eyes in burdensome heap
Far o’er the time that I have woke, to see
the path is trodden and me, beneath
In this new world to which I have found presence,
I see the dwindling beauty
Alas ol’ times my loss of life lies heavy
under tales of fear and strife
Tomorrow comes and morning brings a most
loyal friend,
O companion, your light does greet me hence,
Whilst I lay silent beneath the ground you kindly
shone upon my bed
O dear companion, O light of day, unburden me
until the end and stay with me 'till I wake again
O from head to toe my pain resides
lest lost in fortune those moments we share to rid me of this sentiment,
Good grief and kind sorrow arise and carry me forth
Alas, you are more than just acquaintances now
